FG Restructures Ministries, Scraps Niger Delta, Sports Ministries

Must read

In a significant move towards streamlining governance, President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have undertaken a major restructuring of federal ministries, resulting in the scrapping of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development. These changes, announced during the FEC meeting in Abuja, aim to enhance efficiency and better coordinate regional and national development efforts.

As part of the restructuring, the government has created a new Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee all regional development commissions. This includes the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as well as commissions from the North West, South West, and North East regions. The new structure is expected to foster better coordination and more effective resource management across these areas.

In sports, the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports Development have been transferred to the National Sports Commission, marking a shift in the administration of sports in Nigeria. The aim is to improve the management of sports initiatives and provide better support for athletes and national sports programs.

Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy. By consolidating these sectors, the government hopes to strengthen the promotion of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, tourism, and creative industries under one unified body.

These decisions reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to creating a more efficient and cohesive government structure, with ministries and commissions working in synergy to drive national development and progress.
