Hon. Tunji Rafiu Adekunle, the Minority Leader of the 7th House of Oyo State Assembly, has expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for his recommendation of Senator (Dr.) Monsurat Jumoke Sunmonu for a national honour in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Sunmonu, who holds the distinction of being the first female Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the first female Senator from Oyo State, is set to be honoured at the national level. The recommendation is seen as a testament to Governor Makinde’s leadership and commitment to recognising the contributions of trailblazers in the state.

Hon. Adekunle, speaking on behalf of the Assembly, noted the governor’s efforts in fostering growth and development across the state, particularly under the current administration. The Minority Leader highlighted the significant increase in the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR), which grew by over 90% between 2019 and 2022, positioning Oyo as the sixth highest IGR earner in the nation and first in IGR from local government councils.

In addition to the financial milestones, Hon. Adekunle praised Governor Makinde for key accomplishments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic recovery, and agriculture. Among the highlights were the construction of the 110-kilometre Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, investments in education through a N90.65 billion allocation in the 2024 budget, the upgrade of healthcare facilities, and the implementation of the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) initiative, which has provided financial support to civil servants, pensioners, and smallholder farmers.

The Assembly, through Adekunle, expressed continued support for Governor Makinde’s administration, wishing him success in his ongoing efforts to uplift Oyo State. “More power to your elbow,” the statement read, emphasizing the Assembly’s prayers for further milestones in the governor’s leadership.

Hon. Adekunle concluded by commending the governor for his unwavering dedication to the people of Oyo State and extended prayers for continued divine guidance and blessings.

The statement underscores the unity within the Assembly in supporting Governor Makinde’s developmental strides and leadership vision.
