It was a tensed moment at Ode Alkali Sokoto polling unit at Sanni Okin area in Ilorin when the electorate, party agents, and INEC officials were at loggerheads over the timeframe for the closure of voting exercise.
AWA CONTENT reports that INEC officials at the polling unit claimed that voting would stop by 4pm, to the surprise of many of the electorate who were yet to cast their vote.
In a interview with our reporter, a former Commissioner for Works in the previous administration, Hon. Yusuf AbdulQadir, said INEC officials claimed that INEC had said that the BVAS machine had stopped.
He stressed that the party agents and the electorate were at loggerheads over the INEC officials’ claim that voting would stop at 4pm.
“The voting exercise was suppose to start at around 8:30am but the INEC officials came a little late and arrived with the materials around 11:30pm. However, the elections was smooth since then.
“But just of recent, at about 4:05pm, the INEC officials said they would stop the voting exercise, when there are lots of electorates yet to cast their vote.
“Although they alleged that the BVAS machine no longer work. The electorates and party agent remain undeterred and stood ground that voting must continue. Some moments later, voting resumed and the tension over the voting exercise subdued”, he said.
